The first autumn rain will be followed by a second, far more intense autumn downpour, according to the weather forecast from meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis. According to the well-known meteorologist, a wave of heavy rainfall is set to move in from the northwest, spreading across western, central, and southern regions from the afternoon through into the night. He also warned of accompanying thunderstorms and raised the alarm over potential flooding: “We will see rainfall that will be locally intense, accompanied by thunderstorms, with an increased risk of flooding events, mainly across the Ionian and the western coastal areas of mainland Greece.”

Weather: Athens in the firing line too
Klearchos Marousakis made clear in his forecast that Athens and the wider Attica region will not be spared from the widespread wet weather event. According to the meteorologist, rainfall will be heavy around Thessaly and significant across Attica. “On Saturday, the weather phenomena will spread mainly westward, centrally, and southward. The Peloponnese faces an elevated risk of flooding, particularly in its western and southern areas facing the sea. Heavy rainfall is also expected around Thessaly. There will be considerable rain across the Attica region as well, and we may even see a band of thunderstorms passing through around the afternoon,” he added, noting that by Sunday the bad weather system will be shifting toward eastern areas.
