December has arrived and the countdown to Christmas is now underway, with the traditional Christmas bonus providing much-needed relief to citizens ahead of the holiday season. Specifically, the Christmas bonus for unemployed individuals from DYPA is expected to be paid on December 17.

The payment concerns those who receive regular unemployment benefits, long-term unemployment allowances, or participate in employment and training programs that provide annual benefits.
Christmas bonus: Why it will be paid earlier this year to workers
It should be noted that December 21st is the deadline for paying the Christmas bonus to workers. All employees with dependent employment relationships are entitled to a Christmas bonus, which corresponds to one monthly salary for those paid monthly and 25 daily wages for those paid daily.
However, this year it is expected to be paid earlier, as the 21st falls on a Sunday. Therefore, employers must complete all procedures so that the bonus is given to workers at least by Saturday 20/12, to avoid late payment.
Christmas bonus: How it is calculated
The calculation basis for the bonus is the earnings on December 10th. If the employment relationship was terminated earlier, the earnings from the contract termination date are considered. What you need to know:
- The Christmas bonus payment must be made every year by December 21st
- The reference period is from May 1st to December 31st each year.
- Workers employed continuously throughout this entire period are entitled to the full bonus.
- Those who worked for a shorter period receive a proportional amount: 2/25 of the monthly salary or 2 daily wages for every 19 calendar days of work.
- Legal leaves (annual, maternity, study leave, etc.) are included in the calculation. Specifically for illness cases, “three-day sick leaves” (where no benefit is paid by the insurance provider) are counted, while days with paid sick benefits are deducted.
- For part-time workers, the bonus is calculated based on reduced earnings and employment time from May 1st to December 31st.
Workers can calculate their Christmas bonus online through the application created by KE.PE.A.
