The accessibility and enhancement project for the archaeological site and museum of Kerameikos was officially inaugurated today. The opening ceremony was conducted by Prime Minister Kyriácos Mitsotakis, who was welcomed at the site by Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
The works, carried out by the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens and the Directorate for the Restoration of Ancient Monuments, were funded through the Recovery and Resilience Facility and focused on the functional and aesthetic upgrade of Kerameikos — one of Athens’ most significant ancient sites. The site served as the city’s most important cemetery, in use from the Prehistoric period through Late Antiquity, and was simultaneously one of the ancient world’s foremost centers of pottery and vase painting.
