Spain: Police investigating motives of 25-year-old perpetrator
Police are investigating the perpetrator’s motive, noting that initial assessments suggest domestic violence, as well as how he obtained the weapon since he did not have a gun license.
Gun violence incidents with multiple victims are relatively rare in Spain, which has strict gun ownership laws.
In 2023, the country recorded 53 homicides with firearms, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, meaning 0.1 deaths per 100,000 people – one of the lowest rates both in Europe and globally.
