Rising fuel and energy prices, driven by the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, are causing serious concern within the Greek government. According to sources from Parapolitika 90.1 radio, a high-level meeting is expected to take place at the Maximos Mansion — the office of the Greek Prime Minister — in the coming days, possibly as early as tomorrow.
Heating oil prices and potential government interventions
The price of heating oil remains a major question mark, as its distribution season is set to begin in October. At the same time, a report by the newspaper Apogevmatini indicates that the Ministries of Finance, Energy, and Development are considering increasing subsidy amounts, broadening eligibility criteria, and expanding the number of beneficiaries entitled to the heating oil allowance. In addition, authorities are examining the possibility of across-the-board energy bill subsidies, as well as maintaining existing subsidies on diesel fuel for vehicles.
