Kastellorizo welcomed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis today, as he attended the official celebrations marking the anniversary of the island’s liberation. The festivities began at 10:30 with a thanksgiving service at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen. The Prime Minister then joined local authorities and other dignitaries at the harbor waterfront, where the liberation parade took place.

Speaking after the thanksgiving service and the parade, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized: “Kastellorizo proves that no trial is insurmountable when there is unity and faith, courage and perseverance.” He then turned to the address delivered from this remote island in 2010 by then-Prime Minister George Papandreou.
“We were hurt by the image of 2010, when Kastellorizo was chosen as the backdrop for Greece’s passage into the bailout memoranda — a association this island did not deserve, and one that will be forgotten along with that era and everything that followed,” the Prime Minister said, adding: “Today, here and across all of Greece, things are very different.”
