In a post about the parliamentary debate on the rule of law, Maria Karystianou proceeded to describe it as a “hypocritical process.” Karystianou states in her on-camera declaration that “the rule of law does not exist in Greece,” while simultaneously assigning responsibility to the government, opposition, and “primarily” to the European Commission, which she characterizes as a guardian that is not fulfilling its role.
Maria Karystianou: Greece has been transformed into a state of lawlessness and injustice with the EU as a knowing accomplice to corruption
Furthermore, she argues that Greece has been transformed “into a state of lawlessness and injustice” and the EU into a “knowing accomplice to corruption,” while speaking of a “regime of immunity and impunity” for politicians who –as she says– “are neither investigated, nor prosecuted, nor punished.” At the same time, she questions the content of today’s parliamentary discussion, raising issues concerning –as she mentions– “criminally liable current and former ministers” from the governments of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras, in relation to the Tempe tragedy.
She also refers to the wiretapping case, arguing that “political opponents, ministers, judges and journalists were being monitored,” while speaking of a “whitewash” by the leadership of the Supreme Court. Additionally, she denounces the management of European funds by OPEKEPE, claiming they were directed “to their own people,” at the expense of farmers and the public treasury.
In conclusion, she notes that with “so many criminally liable politicians,” the discussion “is not about the rule of law, but about the mafia state,” adding that the country has been led to “permanent pathology” with responsibility –as she states– of “chronically corrupt politicians.” “From the MAFIA State to HOPE for the Rule of LAW!” she writes in the caption of her post.
