Antonis Samaras appears to be weighing his next moves on the political scene recently. At the same time, according to sources, the former prime minister who has declared himself “present” in all political developments, will seek to intervene in today’s pre-agenda discussion in Parliament, either with a statement before the start or during it, given that he is a former prime minister, with the main focus being the wiretapping case.
Meanwhile, rumors are growing about the creation of a new party aimed at splitting New Democracy. It is not considered coincidental, as some say, that Messinia MP Miltos Chrysomallis (who is a regular interlocutor of his) in a statement to local media in Kalamata signed as “MP of Messinia” and not as an MP of New Democracy, though he claims this was always the case in his statements to local media. Amid all this, information is mounting that middle-ranking Karamanlis supporters from the regions appear ready to assist Antonis Samaras’s endeavor, while symbolically, Kostas Karamanlis is also expected to align himself, having recently made sure to appear alongside the Messinian politician.
However, the other “Samaras-aligned” MP, Andreas Katsaniotis, speaking to Parapolitika 90.1 FM, took care to distance himself, at least saying: “I respect and honor the former prime minister, he is a person with experience, knowledge of affairs and a specific opinion for many years. What I have said and will say, and for me it is clear, is that I will remain in the major party, believing that it can provide the solution for the country.” However, he did not fail to leave a barb, meaningfully saying that “I cannot judge former prime ministers, but what I can surely tell you is that we should look at it overall. When we have two former prime ministers being somewhat critical of us, it is something we should examine.”
