The Volos Court of First Instance Prosecutor’s Office has ordered a preliminary investigation into an 82-year-old man against whom a case file has been formed for intra-family sexual violation of a minor’s dignity, after his granddaughter reported that he had groped her. According to gegonota.news, the 17-year-old reportedly confided in her mother about what she had experienced, triggering a chain reaction of events — as her father did not believe her.
Volos: The minor’s father arrested
According to the same source, during an argument that broke out at home between the minor, her parents, and her grandfather, the girl reportedly told her mother that the 82-year-old had groped her when she was younger. The incident is said to have come to light amid the tense atmosphere already prevailing in the family, as the minor had also accused her father of locking her inside the house.
Her father then confronted her directly, refusing to believe her account, while her mother turned to the police. This led to the father’s arrest; he was brought before the Volos Single-Member Misdemeanor Court on an expedited basis, where he was placed under restrictive conditions, including a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching his wife and their three minor children.
Father violates restraining order
On August 14th, the father was brought back before the court — this time for violating the terms of his restraining order. According to his wife’s complaint, he had entered the courtyard of the home where she and the children were living and refused to leave.
He claimed he had gone there solely to deliver medication to his mother, who lives on the first floor of the same apartment building. The court decided to adjourn the case to Friday, August 21st, so that it could be heard together with the charges already filed against the father for threats, bodily harm on multiple counts, and unlawful violence.
Children ask for their father to return home
During today’s proceedings, both the father and the mother of the children jointly requested that criminal mediation be pursued, so that the criminal prosecution against him would not move forward.
The mother stated that the children are asking for their father to return home and that, aside from the conflicts involving their 17-year-old daughter, there have been no other issues within the family. The court accepted the request and referred the case to a regular hearing.
An initial trial date of May 24th, 2027 was proposed. However, the mother requested that a different date be set, as her 17-year-old daughter would be preparing for her national university entrance exams at that time, and the proceedings could affect her psychological well-being.
The request was granted and the case was ultimately scheduled for June 23rd, 2027.
According to reports, since the case involves minor children, approval from the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office is also required. Depending on its assessment, the Juvenile Prosecutor may request further action to ensure that the criminal mediation process is carried out in the best interests of the minors involved.
