Residents and vacationers in Boeotia and Western Attica endured an extremely difficult night as wildfires continue to devastate the region, with the situation in Porto Germeno described as nothing short of dramatic.
The fire front in Porto Germeno remains out of control. As the first light of day broke, aerial firefighting units were deployed to bolster ground suppression efforts. Throughout the night, evacuations were carried out in Porto Germeno, while in the early morning hours the Coast Guard was forced to intervene — rescuing 12 trapped individuals by sea and transporting them safely to Alepochori. At around 3:00 a.m., a powerful flare-up erupted, making conditions even more challenging for firefighting crews on the ground. The blaze has left significant destruction in its wake, with several homes completely consumed by flames and many more properties suffering serious damage.
In Agios Vasileios, where the fire reached the coastline and caused damage to homes, a major sea evacuation operation had already been underway since Friday, moving both residents and visitors to safety. In total, 254 people were safely evacuated from the beach with the assistance of a Fire Service vessel and speedboat, Coast Guard watercraft, and private boats. The fire fronts in Boeotia were classified by the Fire Service as the most challenging of Friday, due to the difficult terrain and strong gusty winds that caused the blaze to continuously shift direction.
