Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis received a morning briefing on the major active wildfire fronts during his visit to the Civil Protection Operations and Crisis Management Coordination Center. There, he was updated on the progress of firefighting operations and the coordination of forces deployed in the areas where large-scale fires continue to burn.
During the briefing, officials presented a full picture of ongoing operations under the exceptionally difficult weather conditions driven by powerful winds, with particular focus on the fire fronts at Porto Germeno and Domvraina in Boeotia. Following the briefing, the Prime Minister expressed his confidence and full support for the women and men of the Fire Service, as well as for the personnel of other security forces and relevant agencies who are working tirelessly on the front lines.
Mr. Mitsotakis acknowledged that firefighting crews are battling under extremely adverse conditions, as gale-force winds are significantly hampering suppression efforts and, in many cases, are preventing the safe deployment of aerial firefighting assets.
