Diplomatic sources have issued clarifications regarding recent reports about a Verbal Note from Libya, stressing that this is not a new note but rather a document dating back to last August, which reflects longstanding positions of the Libyan side. According to the same diplomatic sources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already taken the necessary steps and responded through diplomatic channels, rejecting the claims put forward as entirely unfounded.
Diplomatic sources respond to recent reports on the Libyan Verbal Note
This is not a new Verbal Note on the part of Libya. It is a note from last August that incorporates longstanding positions of the Libyan side. The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already taken the appropriate steps and responded through diplomatic channels, rejecting the claims being made as entirely unfounded. In the absence of a delimitation agreement with Libya, Greece applies the median line in accordance with international law. Notably, Libya itself has announced offshore blocks based on this same line. The two countries continue the discussions that have already begun regarding the delimitation of an Exclusive Economic Zone between them. The conduct of this bilateral dialogue does not entail the suspension of the exercise of legitimate sovereign rights, nor does it constitute acceptance of unilateral claims.
