The police officer driving the patrol car that struck the 12-year-old student in Salamis on Tuesday afternoon is expected to appear before prosecutors shortly.
The police officer was arrested by his colleagues immediately after the incident was recorded, as required by procedure, and is expected to face summary proceedings this afternoon. Meanwhile, an internal investigation is being launched as soon as the preliminary investigation by the 3rd Traffic Department of Piraeus, which has taken over the case, is completed.

As a reminder, the police officer allegedly struck the 12-year-old girl with the patrol car at the intersection of Themidos and Zalongou streets, outside the 4th Elementary School of the island. The incident occurred around 7:30 PM, and the girl was reportedly attempting to cross the road perpendicularly.
She was initially taken to the Salamis Health Center, but it was deemed necessary to transfer her to a hospital for surgical intervention. The girl was transferred to Metropolitan Hospital where, during the operation and according to reports, special plates were placed in her leg. The girl is not in life-threatening condition.
