On the morning of Thursday (27/08), AKTOR Group CEO Alexandros Exarchos sent a clear message: “We can deliver a safe metro — the most modern metro in Europe,” referring to the handover of the Thessaloniki Metro extension toward Kalamaria.
“The Thessaloniki Metro shows what should not be done on projects of this scale — but also what can be achieved when you have a prime minister who understands even the technical details no one expected him to know. It is the prime minister’s drive that brought us here,” Exarchos continued.
Alexandros Exarchos extended his gratitude to the AKTOR Group’s workforce, adding: “We were fortunate to have Hitachi as a partner — they were invaluable. They went far beyond what was required of them. Partnerships like this are essential for large-scale projects,” he said.
Thessaloniki Metro: What Alexandros Exarchos said about the Kalamaria extension handover
“Great projects are those that impact the daily lives of citizens. Today’s project will change the lives of Thessaloniki’s residents. The Thessaloniki Metro has had its share of trials and triumphs — its story is not unlike that of the AKTOR Group and the Greek economy as a whole,” Exarchos added.
“I hope nothing will stand in the way of Greece’s economic growth”
“Just this past July, we completed the largest share capital increase in the country’s history, with foreign investment interest of €2.5 to €3 billion in AKTOR. This reflects the results of seven years of hard work that we are now beginning to see. For the first time, major international funds and banks are showing interest in buying Greek risk — equity, not debt. I hope nothing will stand in the way of Greece’s economic growth,” Exarchos stated.
