Payments have been completed under the special support scheme implemented by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR), to subsidize businesses affected by the wildfires of summer 2025 in areas of Chios. These payments follow the completion of the second phase and the submission of relevant applications by interested parties on the IAPR’s myBusinessSupport platform, between July 27 and August 7.
Chios: Who is covered by the special support scheme
Specifically, €509,643.30 was paid out to 59 businesses in the Regional Unit of Chios. It is noted that the special support scheme covers private businesses of any legal form, including sole traders, that are subject to VAT and not VAT-exempt, are required to file VAT returns as of December 31, 2025, are operating legally, are located in areas affected by the June and August 2025 wildfires, and have suffered financial losses.
The subsidy applies to businesses that show a reduction of at least 5% in their combined turnover for the months of July through December 2025, compared to the highest combined turnover recorded for the same months in the preceding five years.
The amount of the subsidy corresponds to a portion of the above-mentioned turnover reduction, with a minimum grant of €3,000 and a maximum of €50,000, subject in all cases to the ceiling set every three years for de minimis aid under European Commission regulations.
In parallel, the process is also advancing for subsidizing businesses that suffered direct material damage to their assets — such as equipment and raw materials — as a result of the 2025 wildfires in the Regional Unit of Chios. Notably, on Tuesday, August 18, a total of €217,838.54 was disbursed to 14 businesses affected by the August 2025 fires.
As the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection states, it “continues to implement the state aid framework in Chios, in close cooperation with the relevant authorities and the Regional Unit of Chios.”
