What are the “Readers’ Choice Awards”?
The “Readers’ Choice Awards” are among the most respected institutions in international travel journalism, as the rankings are based on the personal experiences and evaluations of real travelers. In the 2026 US survey alone, more than 798,867 responses were recorded, capturing reader preferences for destinations and accommodations around the world. For “Kalesma,” this recognition holds particular significance, as it speaks directly to the vision behind the property’s creation: a different approach to hospitality, rooted in a deep, personal connection to Mykonos.
“A century of history”
As Makis Kousathanas, CEO of “Kalesma Mykonos,” notes: “This land carries nearly a century of history. When we created Kalesma, that history was already here — the memories, the flavors, the way we know and live Mykonos. We wanted to carry all of that into the present through a contemporary lens, without losing what makes it truly ours. Kalesma means invitation. And that is exactly what we wanted it to be: an invitation to experience Mykonos from the inside. The fact that this recognition comes from the very people who accepted our invitation and stayed with us makes it all the more meaningful.”
Nestled in the Aleomandra area, “Kalesma” draws its architectural concept from the traditional Myconian settlement, reinterpreted through a modern aesthetic. Its 52 rooms, suites, and private villas are spread across approximately 25 acres, offering unobstructed views of both sunrise and sunset. Architecture, local craftsmanship, and the gastronomy of Per Ubu and Kouventa come together alongside an increasingly comprehensive wellness offering — including the “Kalesma Spa” and the “Open-Air Wellness Sanctuary,” a new addition to the hotel experience introduced in 2026.
The full Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 results are available on the websites of Condé Nast Traveller UK and Condé Nast Traveler US, with the US distinctions also featured in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler.
