Ellinikon is beginning to take shape as the new city that has been in the making for years. The first major project to be delivered to the public, The Ellinikon Sports Park, has officially opened its doors, bringing a brand-new space for sports, wellness, and recreation to the Athens Riviera — open and accessible to everyone.
Spanning 287,000 sq.m., the new Sports Park aims to become a vibrant destination along the Athens Riviera, where professional and amateur sports meet everyday fitness, family outings, and something that’s been sorely missing from city life: green space.
Football, basketball, and tennis courts, an outdoor athletics track, fitness areas, and athlete accommodation facilities come together in a space designed not just for training, but for the daily movement and wellbeing of residents. Aquatics facilities are also expected to be handed over to the public in the coming months.
The inauguration of The Ellinikon Sports Park marks a significant milestone in the progress of this landmark redevelopment. With the delivery of the first major project to the public, The Ellinikon is gradually transitioning from the era of blueprints into a new phase — one in which its spaces are beginning to be woven into the fabric of everyday city life.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, government ministers, political leadership representatives, the Governor of Attica, mayors, members of the sports community, Olympic and Paralympic champions, as well as representatives from the business world, local communities, and the media. Children from sports clubs in neighboring municipalities took part in a specially designed event, led by Olympic champion Lefteris Petrounias, bringing the spirit of sport and collective effort to life.
The Hellenic Paralympic Committee was also given a place of special significance at the event. In line with the commitment to creating a space that is open and accessible to all, LAMDA Development granted the Committee office space within The Ellinikon Sports Park. The President of the Hellenic Paralympic Committee, Giorgos Kapellakis, received the keys to the new facilities from Odysseas Athanasiou, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Committee’s operations at The Ellinikon.
During the ceremony, a strategic partnership with the Mouratoglou Racket Club — an internationally recognized brand in the world of sport — was also announced.
The Sports Park forms part of the wider Ellinikon Park and was designed as a space where sport extends far beyond organized training. Walking, leisure, recreation, and connection with nature coexist alongside athletic activities, creating an environment that caters to different ages, needs, and lifestyles.
This is the defining feature of the new space: world-class infrastructure serves as the means, not the end. The goal is to create a space that encourages active living, social interaction, and community participation — one that integrates organically into the life of the city.
With The Ellinikon Sports Park, the grand redevelopment of Ellinikon now has a piece that citizens themselves can use and experience firsthand. And this is one of the first tangible signs of a new everyday reality gradually taking shape at The Ellinikon: more green space, more movement, and more spaces designed around the needs of people.
