In an exceptionally significant initiative to strengthen Civil Protection in the Municipality of Agios Vasileios, MOTOR OIL (Hellas) S.A. and the Vardinogiannis Family have stepped forward with a major donation. Following direct communication with Mayor Giannis Tataraki regarding the devastating consequences of a recent wildfire — including the deaths of two firefighters — the company officially submitted a letter of intent to donate firefighting vehicles and operational equipment.
The donation, aimed exclusively at strengthening the operational capacity of the municipality’s Civil Protection services, includes:
– One (1) fully equipped Double Cab firefighting vehicle, suitable for forest firefighting and first-response operations.
– Five (5) Pick-Up vehicles, suitable for patrols, rapid response, and the transport of personnel and equipment.
– Full individual operational equipment for fifty (50) volunteer firefighters, including — but not limited to — forest firefighting uniforms, helmets, gloves, boots, personal protective equipment, and all other necessary gear in accordance with current specifications.

In its official letter, MOTOR OIL (Hellas) S.A., expressing the wishes of the Vardinogiannis Family, emphasized that the donation is being made “with a sense of responsibility toward the local community and the natural environment of Rethymno,” with the aim of boosting the operational capacity of Civil Protection and “thereby contributing to the protection of human life, the natural environment, and citizens’ property.”
Of particular significance is the letter’s reference to the need to protect the area’s natural heritage — most notably the unique Preveli Palm Forest. As the letter pointedly notes, “there is particular sensitivity regarding the protection of the area’s unique palm forest, a rare ecosystem of immeasurable environmental, cultural, and developmental value.” The letter further stresses that “the availability of appropriate resources and equipment is of decisive importance in ensuring that such a natural asset — as well as the forested and agricultural lands and settlements of the municipality — will be effectively protected from wildfires.”
The company also expressed its deep appreciation “for all those, and especially the firefighters and volunteers who, with selflessness and professionalism, fight daily for the safety of citizens and the protection of the natural environment,” noting that “cooperation and timely preparation are the most powerful tools of prevention.”

The Municipality of Agios Vasileios will immediately proceed with the required administrative procedures to formally accept the donation, so that the equipment can be integrated as swiftly as possible into the Civil Protection forces and utilized for the prevention and management of natural disasters.
