The GEK TERNA Group announces that Giannis Kourniottis is the new Group General Counsel and General Director for Legal Affairs & Corporate Governance. Mr. Kourniottis will oversee the coordination, organization and management of all the Group’s legal services, as well as the development of legal strategy and corporate governance framework in Greece and in all countries where the Group operates.
During his extensive career, he led the Financing & Project Development and Energy departments as a partner lawyer at some of the country’s largest law firms, having established himself as one of the most distinguished specialists in these sectors in the Greek market. He is consistently ranked in all prominent international legal guides, such as Chambers, IFLR and Legal 500, as a leading individual in the fields of banking law, project financing and development, and energy.
Giannis Kourniottis has particularly extensive experience in infrastructure and energy projects, public works, public contracts, concession agreements and public-private partnerships, having provided legal support to all stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle.
A graduate of Athens Law School, he also has a solid economic and business background, holding a full-time MBA from the University of Strathclyde, a postgraduate certification in Tax Law from the Athens University of Economics and Business, as well as an LL.M. in European Union Law from the University of Leicester. Additionally, he holds a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in arbitration from the Swiss Arbitration Academy, the University of Lucerne and the University of Neuchâtel. He is a certified energy and natural gas trader at the Hellenic Energy Exchange.
He has excellent knowledge of Greek and English, as well as very good knowledge of German.
