A deadly tragedy occurred in Uganda, with a traffic accident involving two buses on one of the country’s busiest highways resulting in at least 63 people killed and others injured, police announced today.
The accident occurred shortly after midnight on the highway connecting the capital Kampala and the northern city of Gulu. Initial investigations indicate that the tragedy was caused when two buses traveling from opposite directions attempted to overtake other vehicles—a truck and an SUV.

“During the process, both buses collided head-on while maneuvering to overtake,” the Uganda Police Force stated on X, adding that “63 people lost their lives, all passengers of the vehicles involved” in the traffic accident.
