Regarding the absence of Antonis Samaras from the event for Euripidis Stylianidis’ book launch, Dora Bakogianni made a sharp comment, noting that “the entirety of New Democracy” was present at the event.
Bakogianni on Samaras: “If he wants to choose the path that Tsipras chose, good luck to him”
Speaking characteristically on Thursday morning (9/10) on MEGA TV, she said: “Mr. Samaras finds it very difficult to be part of this atmosphere, it was a very pleasant climate” adding that “ultimately, if Mr. Samaras wants to choose the path that Tsipras chose, good luck to him.” Indeed, as she assessed: “he cut them long ago” (referring to the bridges) with New Democracy.
When asked if efforts are being made to reconcile with Mr. Samaras, Dora Bakogianni replied “I don’t know, I’m not in the category of those trying for this, and beyond that I don’t know if they’re happening and I don’t know if he wants it.” Subsequently, in response to a new question about rumors regarding the former prime minister founding a party, the New Democracy MP answered “I don’t know if he’ll dare to do it, it’s a big decision for him first because polls show that Tsipras would have a higher percentage than Samaras in a potential party, something that cannot fail to create second thoughts. Second, this faction has had stability reflexes for many years, it’s a faction that rallies together in difficult times.”
She added that: “every official who leaves a faction is a loss” and referring again to Antonis Samaras said that “he’s done it before, it’s not the first time but usually history doesn’t repeat itself easily and when it does repeat, it happens as farce.” Finally, referring to Kyriazopoulos’ return to New Democracy, Dora Bakogianni commented “in politics things are never permanent, Mr. Samaras is an example. He comes, he goes, he comes, he goes…”
