Defense Minister Nikos Dendias speaking on Thursday (02/10) in Parliament, during the discussion of the bill for the purchase of the fourth Belharra Standard 2++ frigate and the upgrade of the remaining three to the corresponding level, revealed the true reason for the resignations of both the Commander of the Paratrooper School and the Commander of the Special Warfare School, categorically denying reports that they were allegedly pressured or subjected to interference.
Nikos Dendias: The reason for the paratrooper school commander’s resignation
Specifically, as he made known, the commander of the Paratrooper School resigned because he was asked to include in the paratroopers’ program a 34-year-old officer from the Armenian Armed Forces, as he believed this decision would lower the school’s standards. “I had personally given the promise to the Armenians that their officers would be trained in our schools. You remember that I had gone to Yerevan during the war and had gone again afterwards. And I believe that the Armenians are a brotherly nation to us and brotherly relations are created in the most solid way, through common pain and shared suffering from genocides. That’s why the Officer decided he had to resign. I respect his view, he can do whatever he wants, but don’t turn this back on the Government as criticism for attempting to exercise political influence on Military Schools,” the minister emphasized characteristically.
Regarding the resignation of the Commander of the Special Warfare School, this happened because he completed his retirement years of service. In fact, this reasoning is also recorded in his resignation letter for retirement, Mr. Dendias underlined.
