Regarding the case of the railway tragedy at Tempi and the rumors about the cargo of the freight train, European Prosecutor Laura Codruța Kövesi responded to a relevant question during today’s (Thursday, 2/10) press conference at Piraeus Customs, stating that “we do not have information that would give us the ability to open a truly comprehensive investigation”.
“I won’t dwell on this, I don’t want to say much, because there were rumors about the possibility of smuggling. As I told you, we are investigating it“, the European Prosecutor also said, among other things. “If there is information, anyone can send it to us”, she mentioned at another point.

Laura Codruța Kövesi’s statements on the rumors about the freight train cargo at Tempi:
Specifically, Ms. Kövesi stated: “I won’t dwell on this, I don’t want to say much, because there were rumors about the possibility of smuggling. As I told you, we are investigating it. At this moment, however, we do not have information that would give us the ability to open a truly comprehensive investigation.”
She continued: “If there is more information than this, anyone can send it to us, because at this moment we have some pieces of information that do not give us the ability to open a smuggling case, which could fall within our competencies under specific conditions.”
“We are examining this issue, however, and if we find something, we will certainly start an investigation. At this moment, though, we lack sufficient information on this matter,” Laura Codruța Kövesi concluded.
