The final moments of Giorgos Mazonakis and the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death at a medical clinic on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki are under intense scrutiny by authorities, as new revelations continue to emerge while both doctors remain in pretrial detention. Communications data is expected to shed further light on the circumstances of Mazonakis’ death, as a court order lifting telephone confidentiality has been issued. In their testimonies, the two doctors have each presented their own account of what took place on the fateful afternoon of September 9.

Giorgos Mazonakis: Anesthesiologist’s testimony puts 56-year-old doctor under pressure
According to reports from SKAI, among the first findings to emerge following the lifting of telephone confidentiality, one of the mobile phones under investigation shows an internet search for “antidote for propofol.” Additionally, another search was found on a device being examined by authorities, with the phrase “Mydriasis. What do I do?”
Propofol is a powerful, short-acting anesthetic drug. According to the testimony of the anesthesiologist, this specific drug had been administered to the artist — a statement that puts the 56-year-old doctor in a very difficult position. Investigators also recovered from the 56-year-old doctor’s mobile phone a photograph that she allegedly sent to the hypnotherapist and subsequently deleted. This photograph is believed to be related to the plasmapheresis procedure.
Meanwhile, data retrieved from the plasmapheresis machine reportedly indicates that the procedure had begun, and that multiple consecutive alarms were triggered during its course.
The examining magistrate has already requested the lifting of telephone confidentiality for phones belonging to individuals who are believed to have knowledge of what occurred at the Karneadou clinic. Authorities are now also examining electronic devices seized from the singer’s home, as investigators search for any evidence that may bring greater clarity to the case.
The doctor’s defense: “I am not responsible for my patients’ choices”
The 56-year-old doctor, who is accused in connection with the plasmapheresis procedure performed on Giorgos Mazonakis at her Kolonaki clinic, reportedly denies any criminal responsibility. Having been held in pretrial detention for approximately 15 days, she maintains in her testimony that she followed the correct procedure and considers the treatment “beneficial for her patients.”
“I am not responsible for my patients’ choices,” she is reported to have told the examining magistrate. She also claims that she responded immediately upon noticing changes in the singer’s vital signs.
The 56-year-old doctor is further reported to have argued that plasmapheresis is a therapeutic procedure that can provide genuine benefits to patients. According to her account, the machine’s operating manual contained no specific contraindications or side effects that she believed were relevant to Giorgos Mazonakis’ health condition.
She also reportedly stated that she had never previously encountered a similar incident with any other patient. In her own words, had she known that the procedure could pose a risk to the singer’s health, she would not have proceeded with it.
Her testimony also addresses how the decision to carry out the treatment was reached. According to the doctor’s claims, Giorgos Mazonakis was initially hesitant, primarily due to the financial cost.
According to the same account, the singer ultimately agreed to undergo the procedure when it was offered to him free of charge, as a gift.
