Lawyer Dimitris Giannos, who handled the legal aspects of the Novartis case on behalf of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, describes it as an unthinkable and provocative political conspiracy.
Following the conviction of two former protected witnesses, Maria Marangeli and Filistor Destambasidis, in the Novartis case for perjury and false accusation, as decided by the Athens Single-Member Court of Misdemeanors, Mr. Giannos emphasized in his statement: “The conviction of the 2 perjurers reveals the truth that everyone knows, but does not bring to light the moral perpetrators, the hidden and provocatively protected masterminds of the conspiracy.” He also states that “Antonis Samaras said it and did it, he took the conspiracy ‘to the end’ and will not stop until light defeats darkness!”
Novartis: Full statement from Antonis Samaras’ lawyer
“From the first moment the Novartis case was transformed into an unthinkable and provocative political conspiracy, I had the fortune, honor and responsibility to handle the case legally on behalf of our president A. Samaras.”
For almost 8 years I experienced every moment of it, every detail, every human emotion of it.
The indignation from the unprecedented targeting of a man who carries a unique legacy of national service, morality and dignity.
Today’s decision is not just a personal vindication for him, but primarily a vindication for citizens who are slandered with lies and ultimately a vindication for the institutional protection of our Democracy.
The conviction of the 2 perjurers reveals the truth that everyone knows, but does not bring to light the moral perpetrators, the hidden and provocatively protected masterminds of the conspiracy.
We owe it to the Greek people and the institutions of our system to reveal, even if late, the whole truth and for everyone to assume their responsibilities.
Because oblivion was never a solution.
Antonis Samaras said it and did it, he took the conspiracy “to the end” and will not stop until light defeats darkness,” notes Dimitris Giannos in his post.
