Giorgos Mazonakis: Heightened security measures as large crowds expected
Enhanced security measures were put in place for the memorial service, comparable to those implemented during Giorgos Mazonakis’ funeral. As a large number of the singer’s fans were expected to attend, access to the interior of the church was restricted primarily to family members and close relatives. Other attendees remained outside the church grounds, with police officers overseeing the forecourt area.
The Holy Church of Agia Triada in Nikaia holds a deeply personal significance in the final farewell to Giorgos Mazonakis. It was there that both the public vigil and the funeral service were held. Nikaia was an important part of the singer’s life, as he maintained strong ties to the area from his childhood years.
His burial took place on September 14 at the Third Cemetery of Athens, following a procession that began in Nikaia, with those closest to him accompanying the singer on his final journey.
