The president of the “Hope for Democracy” party, Maria Karystianou, is currently on a two-day tour of Crete, meeting with local authorities and organizations in Heraklion and Rethymno to discuss issues affecting the region.
Meetings in Heraklion
On Friday (31/7), the president of the “Hope for Democracy” movement visited the Heraklion Cultural Conference Centre and held meetings with officials from DEPAN AL. According to reporting by cretalive, she was also expected to meet with representatives of OEVENI later in the day, followed by a visit to the Loggia, where she was set to speak with Heraklion Mayor Alexis Kalokerinos.
During her visit to the Cultural Conference Centre, Maria Karystianou addressed the consequences of the devastating wildfire in Rethymno and used the occasion to criticize the government over legislation concerning water resources and cultural heritage monuments, which she said had been “sold off heartlessly and indifferently.” In the evening, she was scheduled to speak at an open event for movement members and supporters at the ATRION hotel.

According to reports, the tour continued on Saturday, August 1st, in Rethymno, where Maria Karystianou held a series of meetings before returning to Heraklion to depart for Athens.
The Rethymno schedule for the president of the Hope for Democracy movement:
– At 10:30, she visited Anogia in the Rethymno regional unit, where she spoke with residents and met with Mayor Sokratis Kefalogiannis.
– At 12:00, she met with the Mayor of Perama, Giorgos Klados.
– At 13:00, she visited the Arkadi Monastery.
– At 16:30, she visited the Rethymno Agricultural Cooperatives Union.
– At 17:00, she met with the Deputy Regional Governor of Rethymno, Maria Lioni.
– At 18:30, she visited Rethymno General Hospital and the Rethymno Municipal Library.
– At 19:30, she attended an event at the House of Culture and met with movement supporters.
An open event for members and friends of the movement was also held at the same venue.
