Following the conclusion of today’s proceedings in the trial for the Tempi train disaster, held at the Geopolis building in Larissa, Nikos Plakias spoke out about the tensions that arose — both with the defense attorney for one of the accused and with Maria Karystianou. Speaking to reporters after the session, Plakias was asked directly about the heated exchanges that took place during the day’s hearings.

Addressing the confrontation with Dimitris Ioannidis — the defense attorney representing three of the accused — Plakias stated: “Lawyers must show respect. It is unacceptable to claim that Mr. Stournaras has nothing to do with this case. That is offensive. As long as the presumption of innocence exists, of course he can say whatever he wants — but some of these statements are rather provocative. They should defend their clients with a little more dignity toward us.”
Regarding the tension with Maria Karystianou, Plakias commented: “Everyone in that courtroom is defending their own person. There are also matters of a personal nature, and some tension can arise — but today there was nothing particularly noteworthy.”
