Speaking exclusively to parapolitika.gr, New Democracy MP and Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum, Sevi Voloudaki, sent a clear message: “I am not afraid, I will not be intimidated, and I will not back down” — following threatening slogans spray-painted on her political office and her family home. The incident comes in the wake of the arson attacks in Thessaloniki and the murder of Vagia Nestora. Voloudaki had previously published photos of the vandalism, which included slogans such as: “Death to New Democracy,” “Molotov cocktails in your homes,” “Fear changes sides,” “You killed 57 people,” “Revenge,” and “Freedom to anarchists.”
Sevi Voloudaki to parapolitika.gr: “Democracy cannot be blackmailed or terrorized”
Sevi Voloudaki made it unequivocally clear through parapolitika.gr that she will not be intimidated, stressing that democracy cannot be terrorized and that she will continue carrying out her duties with the same resolve. As she stated: “This is not the first time that the ‘known unknowns,’ hiding behind their anonymity and extremist views, have chosen to desecrate my political office and my home — without even showing respect for my children. However, after the murderous attack in Thessaloniki and the tragic death of Vagia Nestora, no one has the right to downplay violence, relativize it, or treat it as an ‘extreme form of protest.'”
“Let me be clear: I am not afraid, I will not be intimidated, and I will not back down. No fascist tactic will distract me from my responsibility to the citizens who trusted me and the society I serve. I draw strength from my family, my fellow citizens, and the values I uphold as a Greek woman, a member of parliament, and a member of the government,” she stated, adding: “The cowards of the darkness are always defeated in the light of society and democracy. We press on. More determined than ever.”
Sevi Voloudaki’s full statement to parapolitika.gr
This is not the first time that the “known unknowns,” hiding behind their anonymity and extremist views, have chosen to desecrate my political office and my home — without even showing respect for my children.
However, after the murderous attack in Thessaloniki and the tragic death of Vagia Nestora, no one has the right to downplay violence, relativize it, or treat it as an “extreme form of protest.” When violence is tolerated, it escalates. And as has been tragically proven, it can kill.
Let me be clear: I am not afraid, I will not be intimidated, and I will not back down. No fascist tactic will distract me from my responsibility to the citizens who trusted me and the society I serve.
I draw strength from my family, my fellow citizens, and the values I uphold as a Greek woman, a member of parliament, and a member of the government.
Democracy cannot be blackmailed or terrorized. The cowards of the darkness are always defeated in the light of society and democracy.
We press on. More determined than ever.
