A serious violent incident with international dimensions is being investigated by authorities in Heraklion, following the brutal assault of a 25-year-old German woman at a hotel in Ammoudara, Heraklion.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening, when police were called to intervene in an altercation at a hotel complex in the area. According to cretalive.gr, upon arriving at the scene, officers found the young woman seriously injured, in a condition that left her unable to speak or breathe normally. Her 19-year-old current partner was also present and had sustained facial injuries. The 25-year-old was transported by ambulance to Venizeleio Hospital, where she remains under medical care, while police immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Suspect tracked down the hotel through an online food order
According to information, the 25-year-old had ended her relationship with a 27-year-old fellow German national several months earlier, after approximately six years together. As she reportedly stated in her testimony, there had been incidents of tension and violence throughout the relationship. Following their breakup, the 27-year-old traveled to Thailand to train in kickboxing, while the young woman started a new relationship and traveled to Crete for a holiday with her 19-year-old partner.
The same sources report that the 27-year-old allegedly learned of his ex-girlfriend’s whereabouts through a shared email account the two had maintained. The key detail was an online food delivery order, through which the address and suite number of the room where the 25-year-old was staying became visible. He then allegedly boarded a flight from Germany to Crete and made his way to the hotel where the couple was staying.
The hotel break-in and arrest
According to the same sources, the 27-year-old entered the hotel grounds by climbing over the pool fence and headed directly to his ex-girlfriend’s suite. A violent confrontation followed, during which the 19-year-old partner was also injured, while the 25-year-old sustained serious blows.
After the incident, the alleged perpetrator fled the scene but was located and arrested by officers from the Malevizi Police Department approximately one hour later. He has been charged with a felony offense, among other charges, and has been given a date to appear before the Heraklion investigating magistrate.
The suspect’s claims
For his part, the 27-year-old reportedly claims that he traveled to Crete with the sole intention of meeting and talking to his ex-girlfriend in person, arguing that their breakup had been communicated via a text message with no prior face-to-face conversation.
He admits to having unlawfully entered the hotel premises but denies any intention of harming her. According to his version of events, the 25-year-old fell during a struggle near the pool area, and he flatly denies the allegations that he struck or kicked her.
The case is currently under investigation by the relevant judicial and police authorities.
