The Ministry of Rural Development and Food is moving forward with the allocation of €80 million for the construction and modernization of small-scale public irrigation works and water management infrastructure.
Call for proposals published by the General Secretariat for EU Resources and Infrastructure
The commitment made by Minister of Rural Development and Food Margaritis Schinas is now being fulfilled: €80 million — freed up from organic livestock farming and organic beekeeping programs — will be redirected toward water infrastructure and small-scale public irrigation works, with Greek municipalities as the designated beneficiaries. The relevant pre-announcement has been officially published by the General Secretariat for EU Resources and Infrastructure of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food (MRDAF).
Specifically, following close collaboration with the competent Secretary General Argyro Zerva, the pre-announcement for the submission of proposals was issued today (July 8, 2026), under intervention P3-73-1.1: “Land Improvement Infrastructure Works”, as part of Greece’s Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy 2023–2027 (CAP Strategic Plan 2023–2027). The pre-announcement has been posted on the MRDAF website so that eligible beneficiaries can familiarize themselves with the details of the upcoming call.
The total budget of the intervention amounts to €80,000,000.
Eligible applicants for the submission of proposals are the Regional Authorities and Municipalities of Greece.
The maximum budget per submitted project is set at €2,200,000 (VAT included).
The co-funded projects will support increased water use efficiency in agriculture through interventions aimed at retaining winter runoff and modernizing irrigation networks with the goal of reducing water losses. Eligible interventions include:
- Modernization of existing irrigation networks and their associated support infrastructure.
- Renovation and replacement of electromechanical equipment.
- Water storage projects and accompanying irrigation networks.
- Energy-saving works in irrigation systems.
- Procurement and installation of telemetry and precision agriculture systems.
- Use of recycled water.
- Artificial groundwater recharge projects, including borehole network renovation.
The initiative is 100% co-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Greek State.
