A new episode has been added to the long-running parliamentary feud between Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Plefsi Eleftherias leader Zoi Konstantopoulou. This time, tensions between the two sides escalated following remarks made by the Plefsi Eleftherias leader regarding the deadly attack in Thessaloniki, which resulted in the death of Vagia Nestora.
“Today (July 2nd) you did the most outrageous thing I have ever seen in my life. Yesterday, the extended New Democracy family lost a human victim — the mother of a New Democracy candidate in Thessaloniki. She was in her bed, asleep, when terrorists set fire to the building. You went on MEGA TV in the morning and said, verbatim, that ‘Mitsotakis’s statement is suspicious’ and that ‘this could be a settling of scores between intra-New Democracy gangs.’ Shame on you, madam,” Adonis Georgiadis said initially, while present in the Plenary session to introduce a regulation related to the inclusion of healthcare workers in the heavy and unhealthy occupations category.
Georgiadis: “Exploiting every dead person you see in front of you”
Addressing the leader of Plefsi Eleftherias, he then invoked recent statements by Pavlos Aslanidis against the backdrop of the Tempi trial, saying pointedly: “No empathy whatsoever. All you do is exploit every dead person you see in front of you. The Greek people are disgusted by your behavior. You should apologize to New Democracy for the shameful things you said.” He also remarked that “it is so tiresome that you have one tape and you play it every single time.”
“I am always with the victims — and you are with the schemers”
Taking the floor for a personal statement, the Plefsi Eleftherias leader spoke about behaviors that promote patriarchy, reiterated her longstanding criticisms of Adonis Georgiadis, and stressed that the Health Minister had embraced Epameinondas Korkoneas — the perpetrator of the murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos. “Spare me the lectures — I am always with the victims, and you are with the schemers,” she said pointedly, going on to claim that Mr. Georgiadis is a Holocaust denier, a denier of the deaths at the Polytechnic uprising, and a denier of the genocide in Gaza.
She then questioned — as she had done earlier in the morning — what had happened with the progress of investigations into the Marfin case, while also referencing New Democracy MP for Heraklion Lefteris Avgenakis and Volos Mayor Achilleas Beos.
