Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis rejected reports of “submissiveness” regarding the decision on the Patriot missiles, speaking to SKAI and referring to “à la carte interpretations” and “so-called experts.” “I’m tired of reading reports about submissiveness,” he stated characteristically, noting that the relevant decision was made after “operational assessment and the passage of a considerable period of time,” based on a recommendation from the Ministry of National Defense. As he emphasized, “it was decided operationally after the passage of a considerable period of time that the Patriots should return following yesterday’s related decision.”
Pavlos Marinakis: Cyprus was a “completely different case”
Referring to Cyprus, Mr. Marinakis noted that it was a “completely different case,” explaining that the deployment there was the result of an initiative by the Greek government, in consultation with the Republic of Cyprus and following communication between the Greek Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
“Here we’re referring to Karpathos and Didymoteicho,” he clarified, rejecting any connection with developments in Turkey. At the same time, he stressed that “it neither constitutes a message nor a goodwill gesture, nor by any means,” emphasizing that the decision “has nothing to do with any development in Turkey whatsoever.”
“Anyone who talks about submissiveness is out of place and time,” he said characteristically, reiterating that it’s a purely operational decision recommended by the Ministry of Defense.
