New details about the shooting incident near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul are coming to light regarding the identity of the perpetrators.
Specifically, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated that the three attackers came from Izmir to Istanbul in a rental vehicle, with him revealing that two of them had connections to “an organization that exploits religion,” effectively pointing to ISIS, while the third had a past involving drugs.
“Three individuals who engaged in an armed confrontation with our police officers on duty in front of the Yapı Kredi Plaza buildings in Istanbul have been neutralized. Two of our heroic police officers were lightly wounded in the confrontation. The identities of the terrorists have been verified. It has been established that one of the individuals, who came to Istanbul from Izmir in a rental vehicle, has ties to an organization that exploits religion and that one of the two terrorists, who are brothers, has a history related to drugs,” the statement reads.
