The taxi driver who transported Giorgos Mazonakis to the clinic where the singer lost his life has made significant revelations. Mazonakis arrived at the Kolonaki medical practice by taxi on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9th, and the driver who transported him from his home gave authorities his own account of what took place during the journey. The taxi driver, who had spoken with the singer during the ride, spoke publicly for the first time and stated that he told police everything he knew. His statements came in addition to security camera footage that captured the taxi shortly before it arrived at the Kolonaki clinic.

Giorgos Mazonakis: “I did what I had to do”
The taxi driver spoke on Mega’s main evening news bulletin and, visibly moved by the loss of the artist, expressed his hope that the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death would be fully clarified. “I did what I had to do — tell the truth, my truth, about my passenger,” the driver told journalist Giannis Rigos. He made clear that he has no knowledge of what happened after the singer entered the clinic. “I don’t know — that’s for justice to determine, and for his family. Tomorrow we have to say goodbye to Giorgos, starting from tonight, it seems, and through tomorrow. He is leaving — for his family and for all of us,” he concluded.
What the security camera footage shows
The footage that has come to light was recorded by a security camera on Irodotou Attikou Street, just a few meters before the point where the taxi turns onto Karneadou Street to reach the clinic of Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka. In the video, the timestamp reads 12:55. However, according to reports, the recording device of that particular camera has a one-hour discrepancy, meaning the actual time the taxi was traveling along Irodotou Attikou Street was 13:54. The owner of the taxi, who was identified by police authorities, stated that he transported the well-known singer to Kolonaki at 13:55 on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9th.
The discrepancy in the reported times
According to reports, the time established through the footage and the driver’s testimony differs from the time that 56-year-old doctor Ioanna Gaka is said to have stated during preliminary proceedings. As reported, the doctor had testified that the singer arrived in Kolonaki at 16:00 — approximately two hours later than the time indicated by the camera footage and the taxi driver’s account. The driver’s testimony thus becomes yet another key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation into the precise sequence of events leading up to the artist’s death.
