Donald Trump warned Iran and the Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, that the American response to recent attacks on energy infrastructure will come “soon,” following the missile strike that caused a fire at Israel’s largest oil refinery in Haifa. Speaking to the New York Post, Trump left open the possibility of further military escalation, while simultaneously calling on Iranian leadership to reach an agreement before, as he stated, “it’s too late.” “You’ll see soon,” he declared when asked about Washington’s response.
According to the same statements, Iran has extended strikes to critical infrastructure, targeting water and power facilities in Kuwait, while the missile attack on the northern Israeli city of Haifa caused a fire at an oil refinery. The American president emphasized that Washington will determine within the next week whether the Iranian parliament speaker is willing to cooperate with the US. “We’ll find out,” he stated characteristically, adding that there will be an update “in about a week.”
Trump: There has been a complete regime change in Iran
Trump also claimed that a dramatic change has occurred within the Iranian regime, arguing that the old leadership group has been replaced by new faces, who he said appear more willing to cooperate with Washington. “There has been a complete regime change, as the previous structures no longer exist and we now deal with a completely new group of people,” he declared. “So far, they appear much more rational.” Asked whether these are different people compared to previous leaderships that were considered US adversaries, he replied: “Pretty much. The others are all dead.”
The US president also referred to the health condition of Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, noting that he has not appeared publicly since the start of American and Israeli attacks on February 28. “No one has heard from him,” he stated, adding that he is reportedly “seriously injured.” When asked whether he is alive, he replied: “We don’t know. Probably yes, but in extremely bad condition.”
