An operation to intercept an unmanned aircraft (drone) took place on Saturday morning over Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, putting authorities on high alert and leading to temporary flight suspensions.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to Agence France-Presse (AFP), a loud explosion was heard and shortly after thick clouds of smoke appeared in the sky near the airport. The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that an operation is underway to counter a drone attack, which is attributed to Iran.
Dubai’s government confirmed the incident with a post on platform X, stating that there was a “minor incident that resulted in debris falling after a successful intercept.” Authorities clarified that there were no injuries or damage to critical infrastructure.

Meanwhile, relevant authorities dismissed information circulating on social media about more serious strikes at the city’s international airport, emphasizing that the situation is under control and that all necessary security measures are being taken. In its announcement, airport management stated that “for the safety of passengers, airport staff and airline crews, operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) have been temporarily suspended.”
As noted, all incident management procedures are being carried out according to established security protocols. The incident occurs amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with UAE authorities remaining on alert for potential new threats.
