The terrorist threat is currently at its highest level, with Europe remaining in a state of heightened alert as the war in the Middle East escalates. Cyprus is experiencing unprecedented conditions and is also facing fears of attacks by “lone wolves“, while the Revolutionary Guards continue to declare their determination to proceed with retaliation. According to Cyprus Times, particular concern was caused by a message attributed to their alleged leader, which includes direct threats against Cyprus.
“Lone wolves” are the main fear of a potential blind strike in Cyprus, as a senior intelligence source assured Cyprus Times. For this reason, all necessary measures are being taken, while there is also direct cooperation with Israeli intelligence services.
Cyprus: Suspicious persons at Nicosia General Hospital, nothing materialized
Meanwhile, reliable police sources from Cyprus Times report that at least two individuals considered suspicious passed through Nicosia General Hospital in recent hours. Their detention at the hospital offices was carried out as part of preventive counter-terrorism measures due to the state of war. Nothing materialized against them and after investigation they were released, however, intensive checks continue.
It should be noted that all critical infrastructure of the Republic and other points considered high-risk are at the center of Cyprus’s security measures. Enhanced measures – visible and invisible – are being implemented at airports, ports, checkpoints, embassies, Israeli and American interest buildings that constitute potential targets.
Europol fears increased terrorist threat in Europe
It should be noted that the war in the Middle East has intensified Union-wide concerns about potential terrorist attacks, as revealed by a Europol official. According to Cyprus Times, Britain is already warning that there is a very serious threat of terrorist attacks against UK interests worldwide and wherever British nationals are located. This is why it has even changed its travel advisories on the British Foreign Office website for Cyprus and recommends that those traveling to Cyprus, among other countries, be extremely careful.
