US President Donald Trump claimed that Cuba is approaching significant political developments, estimating that the island’s regime may collapse soon. He made these remarks during a phone interview he gave on Friday to CNN. During the discussion, Trump spoke about the United States’ military successes during his second term and, referring to the situation in Cuba, expressed his belief that developments on the island will be immediate. “Cuba will fall very soon. Incidentally, it’s unrelated to what we’re discussing, but Cuba will fall too. They very much want to make a deal.”

The American president added that he plans to assign the issue to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “They want to make a deal and so I’ll have Marco (Rubio) take it on and we’ll see how it develops. Right now we’re very focused on what’s happening now. We have plenty of time, but Cuba is ready — after 50 years,” he stated. Continuing, Trump claimed he has been monitoring developments in the country for decades and that the situation has evolved in a way that, as he said, connects to his own policies. “I’ve been watching it for 50 years and now it fell into my hands because of me, it has collapsed, but in any case it fell into my hands. And we’re doing very well,” he noted.
Trump on Rubio: He’s doing excellent work and his next mission will be the Cuba issue
One day earlier, speaking at the White House, Trump had stated that he believes it’s “only a matter of time” before Cubans living in the United States can return to their country of origin. The American president implied that the Cuba issue represents one of his administration’s next targets, following the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Referring to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he declared: “He’s doing excellent work and his next mission will be this, we want to deal with this particular Cuba issue.” He then added that the head of American diplomacy believes the current crisis must first be completed before Washington proceeds with new moves.
“He’s waiting. But he says ‘let’s finish this first.’ We could do everything simultaneously, but then bad things happen. If you watch what has happened to countries all these years, when you do everything too quickly, bad things happen. We won’t let anything bad happen to this country,” Trump stated.
