“He bothered me, he annoyed me” said the 46-year-old patricide among other incoherent statements to police officers moments after his arrest in Glyfada. Within a decade, the man brutally murdered both his mother and father, raising questions about how the rule of law functioned in his case.
Glyfada murder: How the tragedy unfolded
On March 28, 2014, the 46-year-old had murdered his mother with repeated stab wounds inside their apartment in Glyfada, on Githiou Street 11. He was arrested, confined to a psychiatric institution, but shortly after was walking free again.
His father, then 68 years old, had undertaken to care for him. For some period, it appears that the matricide, who was dealing with mental health problems, was regularly taking his medication. In recent years, however, things became difficult as the now 80-year-old man did not have the stamina to look after his son.
Neighbors’ testimonies are shocking
According to neighbors’ testimonies to police, the 46-year-old was violent and voices were often heard from the family’s apartment in the three-story building in Glyfada. “I will kill my siblings too” shouted the 46-year-old patricide during a moment of crisis inside the police station. The prosecutor on duty will decide whether he will be brought before Justice or taken directly to a psychiatric institution.
The issue is that this man brutally murdered his mother in the bathroom of their home and as it was proven, absolutely nothing was done to address his problem. He proved dangerous to his relatives and neighbors but remained equally dangerous, as he was not monitored by specialized services and doctors, given that he had already committed one murder.
Police have located the murder weapon, the knife with which he inflicted multiple wounds, at first glance, on his 80-year-old father’s body, and it has been transferred to the Criminology Laboratories. The unfortunate man’s death is estimated to have occurred around 7 PM on Saturday, with police continuing their investigation into the case.
