Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Konstantinos Kyranakis, announced that a subsidy is being prepared for the purchase of electric taxis, with an amount reaching approximately €20,000, emphasizing the facilitation of professional drivers across the country. Regarding electric taxis specifically, Mr. Kyranakis reiterated that there will be a new subsidy program, but with different terms from the recently effective “green taxis” scheme.
It was not clarified, within the framework of today’s presentation and inauguration of ALESCO’s 600 KW fast chargers in Paramythia, Thesprotia, whether the new cycle will be called “Move Electric 4,” but it became clear that there will be no interruption in subsidies, regardless of current resource availability.
Green taxis: Who will be eligible for the subsidy
The subsidy will target taxi owners who have an obligation to replace their vehicle, due to age or regulations, so that the transition to an electric model can be made with a lower economic burden for the professional.
It has not yet been clarified whether the measure will apply only within the current year or if it will extend to next year, something of particular interest to those planning to purchase a car in the medium term.
How the subsidy will work
Unlike the “Green Taxis” program, the owner will not need to pay the entire value of the car and wait for a refund from the state later.
The subsidy will be integrated directly into the purchase price, meaning the driver will see a reduced amount on the invoice. For example, a €45,000 taxi will cost immediately noticeably less.
Beyond the immediate price reduction, each electric taxi owner will be entitled to 150% super depreciation, which significantly affects the taxation method of their business.
In practice, this means that the car’s cost is deducted to a greater extent from taxable profits. Thus, many professionals are expected to pay minimal or almost zero tax.
Electric taxis offer lower energy costs compared to gasoline or diesel, especially for vehicles that operate many hours within the city.
