Polls are continuously running and capturing new dynamics in a constantly reshuffling political landscape. New developments come from emerging political parties currently being established. Tsipras and Karystianou remain constantly in the spotlight, with Maria Karystianou having overtaken the former prime minister both in the speed of announcements and in potential voter reach. However, an interesting picture of political dynamics is also captured on social media, which are becoming a primary platform for political communication and messaging.
Interesting data was presented by Nikos Xydas, founder of Humble, a company focused on communication and social media, speaking on Action 24’s show “Behind the Lines.” According to this data, Kyriakos Mitsotakis ranks first on the popular TikTok platform with a well-crafted and established profile. Alexis Tsipras follows, also having a well-structured profile as a former prime minister. The surprise comes from Maria Karystianou, who follows third but has the account with the most interactions – indicating that her followers strongly support what she expresses. In terms of Google searches, however, Maria Karystianou ranks first, especially since she revealed her cards by announcing she would form a party. Kyriakos Mitsotakis follows, with Alexis Tsipras in third place. The former prime minister had attracted attention when he first presented his book “Ithaca,” but interest has declined since then.
Regarding messages conveyed through these platforms, Tasos Vassileiou, Research Director at Prorata, emphasizes that positive messages have greater impact. However, he notes that there is a consistently stable audience that supports so-called anti-establishment ideology. Professor of Political Philosophy and communications expert Iakovos Armaos points out that Maria Karystianou speaks to citizens’ emotions, while Alexis Tsipras has a “mountain” to climb, as memories from his time as prime minister remain fresh.
With this data, the dynamics of each political figure are largely reflected online as well. Politicians and primarily citizens, through their searches and positions, demonstrate the dynamics being shaped in the political landscape.
