Shock grips Britain following the revelation of an extreme abuse case that came to light after restrictions on publishing details were lifted. A woman was found guilty of imprisoning and systematically abusing another woman, whom she kept isolated inside her home for a full 25 years.
56-year-old Mandy Wixon, mother of ten children, held the victim from the age of 16, exploiting her learning difficulties. The woman was forced to clean daily under horrific conditions, without adequate food and without access to basic needs.
Living under horrific conditions of captivity
According to testimony presented in court, the victim lived isolated in a room described as a “prison cell.” She was fed scraps, subjected to physical violence and endured humiliation, including repeated head shaving and having bleach thrown in her face.
Police authorities who found her in March 2021 discovered serious signs of abuse, malnutrition and absence of any medical care for decades.
The moment of rescue and the court verdict
The woman was discovered following concerns raised by a relative and was immediately transferred to a safe environment. Gloucester Court found the defendant guilty of false imprisonment, forced labor and causing bodily harm.
Today, the victim lives with a foster family, attends college and is trying to rebuild her life, leaving behind a nightmare that lasted a quarter of a century.
