“The MEPs served the position of the government and the party regarding the agreement on Mercosur,” government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis stated during a briefing with political editors.
He emphasized that the decision to vote against the EU’s appeal to European courts was correct, even though the opposite ultimately occurred. When asked whether party discipline was an issue, given that about 100 other MEPs from the European People’s Party also supported judicial resolution of the matter, he stated that no disagreement came to his attention.
“We have the right to believe that this is the right side of history and that delays in implementing the agreement won’t do any good,” Marinakis added.
