Developments continue around the double homicide in Foinikounta, as supplementary testimonies from the two accused 22-year-olds lasted several hours. The first investigative procedure began shortly after 12 noon and was completed in the early morning hours, just after 3 AM. The first to testify before the First Investigator of the Kalamata Court was 22-year-old Ch.T., who now faces charges as the physical perpetrator. His stay in the investigator’s office lasted approximately 7.5 hours.
Double homicide in Foinikounta: The accused admitted communication via burner phones
The accused retracted his initial testimony, in which he had appeared as an accomplice and had pointed to his friend I.M. as the executor. As he stated, he then thought he should stand “morally correct” towards him, while claiming he was led to Foinikounta after being trapped by the other parties involved in the case. He admitted there was communication via “Pakistani-type” phones and that he entered the campground on the night in question, following a phone call from a person already on the premises. He denies any direct involvement in the shootings.
22-year-old denies having weapon
Despite the above, the 22-year-old was adamant that he did not have a weapon, did not shoot, and did not enter the reception where the two victims were murdered. He maintained he was at another point in the campground and when he heard two or three gunshots, he immediately left without seeing who was inside. Regarding his escape, he repeated that he had no help from a third party, but modified his initial claim about returning to Kalamata by swimming. Instead, he stated he spent the night hidden in a forested area and returned to the city the next day.
Second 22-year-old maintains his initial claims
To critical questions from the investigator, Ch.T. repeatedly answered that he was not in a position to provide more details, citing fear both for his own life in prison and for the safety of his relatives. Immediately after, the second 22-year-old, I.M., testified, maintaining his initial claims. Although now charged with complicity, he denies any involvement in the murder. As he argued, his presence in Foinikounta was exclusively for blackmail against the 68-year-old campground owner, on behalf of his friend Ch.T., without knowing anything about a potential murder.
Existence of third person not ruled out
With the completion of both testimonies, the investigator proceeded with a confrontational examination of the two accused in the early morning hours, to check contradictions following Ch.T.’s change of stance. According to information, no new critical data emerged, with Ch.T. constantly repeating: “I cannot answer, I fear for my life.” The procedure was completed shortly after 3 AM, with the investigator informing the defense lawyers that the case remains open on all levels, while authorities do not rule out the possibility of a third, unknown person being present in the campground on the night of the murder.
