Tomorrow, Attica and several areas of Central Greece and the Peloponnese will be placed on the highest level of alert for wildfire outbreaks, as extreme fire danger (category 5) has been forecast. At the same time, very high fire danger (category 4) is expected across numerous regions of both mainland and island Greece, according to the Fire Danger Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection under the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
Fire Danger Forecast Map: Which regions are on high alert
Specifically, extreme fire danger — Alert Status (risk category 5) — is forecast tomorrow for the following areas:
- Region of Attica
- Region of Central Greece (Regional Units of Boeotia, Phthiotis)
- Region of Peloponnese (Regional Units of Argolis, Corinthia)
Very high fire danger (risk category 4) is forecast for the following areas:
- Region of Peloponnese (Regional Units of Arcadia, Laconia)
- Region of Western Greece (Regional Units of Aetolia-Acarnania, Achaea)
- Region of Central Greece (Regional Units of Phocis, Euboea)
- Region of Thessaly
- Region of Central Macedonia (Regional Units of Kilkis, Thessaloniki)
- Region of South Aegean (Regional Unit of Rhodes)
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), operating under the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, has notified all relevant state services, as well as the Regional and Municipal authorities of the aforementioned areas, to maintain heightened civil protection readiness in order to respond immediately to any potential wildfire incidents.
In addition, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection urges citizens to exercise extreme caution and to avoid any outdoor activities that could negligently cause a fire, such as burning dry grass, branches, or vegetation clearance debris; using spark-producing machinery such as angle grinders, welding equipment, or similar tools; using outdoor barbecues; smoking out beehives; discarding lit cigarettes; and other similar actions. Citizens are also reminded that field burning is strictly prohibited throughout the fire season.
