Marco Rubio arrived in Iceland — specifically its capital, Reykjavik — on the evening of Monday, October 5. The U.S. Secretary of State has scheduled talks regarding the Trump administration’s interests in the Arctic, following the agreement signed at the 81st UN General Assembly concerning Greenland. His aircraft is set to depart on Tuesday, October 6, bound for Greece, where he is expected to arrive in Athens later that same day.
Rubio traveled to Reykjavik to meet with Icelandic officials to discuss “cooperation in the areas of economics and security,” according to the State Department.
“They are NATO members and good friends of the United States. So it’s an opportunity to stop there and meet with them,” Rubio stated shortly before his departure. “This follows a conversation I had with the country’s leadership during the NATO summit earlier this year, including with their foreign minister.”
