Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov launched a sharp attack against Europe from the podium of the UN General Assembly, while simultaneously declaring that Moscow is ready to help stabilize the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Specifically, Lavrov accused Europe of systematically opposing peace plans for Ukraine, in contrast, he claimed, to the position maintained by the United States. “Europe is doing everything it can to obstruct the peace talks that the Trump administration desires,” the Russian foreign minister asserted.
Lavrov’s attack on Berlin
In his address, Lavrov pledged that Moscow would achieve its military objectives in Ukraine “regardless of circumstances.” “The goals of the special military operation will be achieved, the threat to Russian security will be eliminated, and peaceful life will return,” he said.
Lavrov, who had earlier met with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul, turned his fire on Berlin over the proposed reform of the UN Security Council. He argued that such a reform “cannot include additional seats for Western countries, particularly Germany and Japan, which are now on the path of militarism.”
“Russia can help in the Strait of Hormuz”
Lavrov also stated that Moscow is prepared to help stabilize the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, shortly after US President Donald Trump officially announced that he had rejected Iran’s proposal to open this critical maritime passage within seven days.
“We need trust in relations between the Gulf states, the Arab states, and Iran. We need a stable regional architecture,” he said.
Lavrov also called on the United States to lift its “blockade” of Cuba and ease trade restrictions on the Caribbean’s largest island, while insisting that the US should remove Cuba from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.
