As reported by Variety Australia, the appearance had nothing to do with filming the new movie — it was, in fact, a special stunt organized for Batman Day.
Batman Day and the Sydney event
Batman Day takes place every year on the third Saturday of September, with this year’s celebration scheduled for September 19. At the Sydney Opera House, the main event was set for 6:00 PM on Saturday evening. Celebrations for the legendary character take place across multiple countries and typically include special film screenings, comic book activities, competitions, and exclusive collectible giveaways. This year’s festivities also mark a significant milestone: the 87th anniversary of Batman’s creation.

When is “The Batman 2” coming out?
Although the Sydney Opera House appearance was neither a teaser nor part of “The Batman 2” production, the upcoming film continues to generate enormous anticipation. Matt Reeves returns to direct, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Bruce Wayne. The cast is expected to include Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, while Barry Keoghan is set to reprise his role as the Joker. The sequel to the 2022 film has faced several delays, partly due to leadership changes at DC Studios following the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran. As things currently stand, “The Batman 2” is scheduled to premiere in February 2028.
