Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today called on his American counterpart Donald Trump to move “right now” to impose “strict” sanctions against Russia, in order to limit its capacity to produce missiles, as the escalation of strikes continues. “Sanctions must be imposed now. These sanctions must be strict. I sometimes don’t understand why decisions can’t be made quickly,” Zelensky stated during his address at the Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv.

The Ukrainian president further argued that “measures to restrict the production of ballistic missiles and related weapons must be taken quickly,” while also stressing that “it is important for the American government to make firm decisions — personal decisions by President Trump.”
Zelensky plans to meet Trump in New York in late September
During a visit to Canada on Thursday, Zelensky announced that he plans to meet Trump in New York in late September, following visits to Moscow and Kyiv by American envoys aimed at reviving diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine — efforts that have been deadlocked since the beginning of the year.
